New Digs & New Duds

Nursing School begins on the 27th next month. The same day my daughter begins her first day of 5th grade. That 's insane because my daughter started her first day of kindergarten around the time I started back to school. My goal was to have my degree and be able to be home for her by the time she gets off of the bus when she's in junior high. I remember having all kinds of unwarranted fun at that age and that's exactly what fun I plan to eliminate for her. This will certainly be an interesting year. It's funny in retrospect. I sat down five years ago with my degree plan and mapped out which courses I would take together and at what point. I was shocked to see when I would finally apply for the Nursing Program; 2007! Now it's here and I have been accepted. It's taken a lot of hard work and many a stressful days put into reaching this goal. I am elated!

I found other bloggers out of boredom. Reading what other people in the medical industry have to say has invigorated me and strengthened my resolve for the profession and all that lies ahead.

I went into a doctors office last week to get my yearly TB shot. This is mandatory with the school. After checking with a certain doctors office six months ahead of time as to the cost, I was told that a person without insurance would pay 30$ out of pocket and there would be no other fees associated. Good. I called in April to make my appointment for July and was told the same thing. When I came into the office the nice girl in the front told me specifically to expect to pay 30$ and to schedule for a TB reading two days later. I scheduled that appointment. After seeing the nurse who took my temperature and gave me a shot I was sent back to the front office with that infamous routing sheet with my charges. A second girl; the girl who quoted me in person six months prior ( An indiferent and calus personality) tried to charge me 95$!!

Here's the breakdown:

30$ TB injection

5$ Charge for needle WTF??

60$ Nurse fee

Thankfully for me, the girl who I made the appointment with was there and reminded the office manager of the politics that had changed in their office since I scheduled. She said that in every right, I should be charged as I was quoted. And I was. I was also told by the office manager, "You just got a bargain."
Unbelievable.

Franken Doc

I can hardly believe I worked for this guy for seven years. The last four were incredibly tortuous. He was the ultimate elitist. A complete hypocrite. And a pervert. A fellow blogger, Angry Male Nurse, blogged about horizontal violence. He was without mistake referring to the liking of Doctor Frankenstein himself. Thank God I am free now. After all of his ridiculous rantings and sexist remarks I decided to free myself earlier than expected and take the summer off from work. I can gear down before my first semester of nursing school. Woo Hoo! Now that I am free of his farcical ramblings and condescending faux pas, I am happy for the first time in years. The perceptible signs of stress were unfading and it was far beyond time to get the hell out of dodge. So...If you find yourself in this situation, LEAVE. I feel better already!
